Haryana Roadways is the principal government bus service of the state of Haryana, operated by the Department of State Transport under the Government of Haryana. It runs a fleet of approximately 4,250 buses from 24 depots and 13 sub-depots, covering 1,116 intra-state routes and 446 inter-state routes. The network carries over 1.1 million passengers every day and covers roughly 1.1 million kilometres on the road daily.
Starting with just two Regional Transport Authorities in 1966, it has grown into one of the largest state transport undertakings in North India. Today it is popularly known as "Haryana ka Jahaj" — the Ship of Haryana — for its reach, reliability, and consistent service across both urban and rural parts of the state.
- March 2025 — Haryana Budget announced the addition of 1,025 new buses: 500 non-AC BS-6 standard buses, 150 AC buses, and 375 electric buses.
- October 2025 — Faridabad depot restarted the Faridabad–Ayodhya Dham seasonal bus service.
- Ongoing — Haryana Roadways is implementing UPI-based ticket payments across depots. CCTV cameras have been fitted on 284 buses in the Gurugram fleet.
Bus Types Operated by Haryana Roadways
The backbone of the network. Non-AC, run on all 1,116 intra-state and most inter-state routes. This is the most affordable option and is available at every bus stand without prior booking.
Branded as 'Aam Aadmi Ki Khas Bus', the Haryana Gaurav is a deluxe-level service available at ordinary bus fares (with a minor distance surcharge). Features include 2x2 cushioned seating, mobile charger points, pneumatically operated doors, tinted glass, and curtains.
CNG-powered buses introduced for the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, covering routes between Haryana districts and Delhi. Currently, over 300 Haryana Uday buses operate on various NCR routes representing a push toward greener transit.
Long-distance AC coaches connecting major cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, Dehradun, and Haridwar. The 'Saarthi' branded Volvo buses run heavily on the Chandigarh–Delhi–Gurugram corridors, with some services touching IGI Airport. Bookable online in advance.
Fares & Travel Concessions
Haryana Roadways fares are set by the State Transport Authority and include passenger tax. Fares are calculated per kilometre and rounded to the nearest rupee. A minimum fare of ₹5 applies, and a toll tax of ₹2 per passenger is added where applicable.
Senior Citizens Concession: Permanent residents of Haryana aged 60 years and above (women) or 65 years and above (men) are entitled to a 50% discount on bus fares on Haryana Roadways non-AC buses. The concession requires a valid bus pass linked to Aadhaar. Apply online at ebooking.hrtransport.gov.in using your PPP Family ID.
Raksha Bandhan: Free travel for women is traditionally announced by Haryana Roadways on Raksha Bandhan each year.
